The Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center is honored to have over 50 friendly and dedicated volunteers annually who play an integral role in fulfilling our mission of providing loving care to children.
There are various opportunities for our volunteers, whether your interest is spending quality time with both children and families – reading, playing games, making music, doing arts and crafts and helping with homework – or helping with administrative tasks such as filing and database entry; there is something for everyone.
Giving one’s time to our children and to our program is a richly rewarding experience. They will never forget your generosity.
Please note that all volunteers must be at least 17-years-old. Given the medical complexity of our children, this is non-negotiable.
Please also note that all volunteers must complete a medical form, criminal background check and NYS Office of Children and Family Services screening prior to lending their time.
Volunteers will be assigned to one of our neighborhoods. Here they have the opportunity to interact with a variety of children ages birth to 21-years-old. Neighborhood helpers act as companions for children and infants by rocking babies, reading stories at the bedside, accompanying children to our many in-house activities or simply holding a hand and being present with a child.
All volunteers are required to submit the volunteer medical history form. This form outlines the medical requirements to be submitted prior to volunteering. The first page is to be filled out by the applicant and the second by a physician.
All volunteers are required to fill out a State Central Registry (SCR) and HireRight background check. Please allow ample time for these background checks to be completed; you cannot begin as a volunteer until they are cleared.
All volunteers are required to submit three letters of reference with their application.
Attending a volunteer orientation is mandatory prior to volunteering. Upcoming dates will be provided by the Vanessa Andrews, Volunteer Coordinator, when the initial application or inquiry is received.
Volunteers must agree to dedicate at least three consecutive months or one semester of their time for a minimum of three hours per week. Additionally, volunteers must adhere to their consistent schedule each week; unscheduled visits are not permitted.
Any individual interested in internships, fellowships, practicums, observation, field work or any other educational opportunity requiring professional supervision, must contact the affiliated department directly. These opportunities are not processed through the volunteer department.
